Taking in Tahoe

We’re back from another inspiring road trip. This time we took the scenic drive up to Lake Tahoe for a beautiful (and chilly) shoot amongst the majesty of those snow-covered mountains—and we discovered some great little spots along the way. Here are some of our favorite places to eat, sleep, and more.

pit stop

On the way there, we pulled off in search of a snack and found the historic Gold Rush town of Placerville, right off Route 50. Main Street is lined with a mix of modern shops and local standbys, with just enough hustle and bustle to keep it interesting.

After grabbing a cappuccino and gluten free muffin at totem coffee (they were sold out of donuts, but we will be back for them!), we picked up some all-natural, handmade candles and skincare at Midnight Kin, and filled our car with beautiful home goods from brass and oak. It’s definitely worth a stop.

sleep

the lodge at edgewood is a chic, upscale mountain lodge at its best. rooms are cozy and comfortable—grab one with a view—and we loved having an onsite ice skating rink. the lakefront location can’t be beat.

eat

for a quick, fresh lunch, head to sprouts for rice bowls, sandwiches, and salads. don’t miss the nachos, they’re a local favorite.

the bistro bar at the lodge at edgewood is a fun spot for a cocktail and bites.

shop

tahoe green is a well-stocked local dispensary with a great selection of all things cannabis—from edibles to tinctures to spiked sparkling water.

see

there are myriad places to catch a breathtaking view in tahoe, but here are three that really made an impression:

cave rock state park - get up close and personal at this rocky beach with a boat ramp.

emerald bay state park - a great place to obsess over the turquoise waters, hike, kayak, and stay for sunset.

inspiration point - located on emerald bay, catch a glimpse from up above (600 feet to be exact) and sneak a peek of picturesque fannette Island.
